Control Internet traffic in Windows 10?
- Windows 10 setup
A few years ago, everyone who had: a personal computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet, didn’t think too deeply about constantly performing Internet traffic control in Windows 10, as few people used the Internet, and there was no operating system of such a level as “ten”. Accordingly, users increasingly used the “mobile Internet” in rare cases and tried to connect to the Internet connection that was located at their home, at work, in an educational institution, or in another public place. Now, the situation has changed and can’t do without daily use of the Internet, and this is not always done with the help of computers and mobile gadgets that the user has. Thus, if it is possible to use unlimited Wi-Fi connections, many use it, and those who do not have it, you have to invent some “barrier barriers” that control the consumption of traffic limits, which cannot be crossed in any situations, since otherwise, by the end of the month there will be a situation that it will not be possible to use the Internet at all due to the spent “package” and it will be necessary to renew it by buying another one.
Of course, active users of devices have long started trying to limit their limit Internet traffic to one of the methods present on the software market... That is why, most often, software developed in such situations is not developed by MS, but by third-party companies. Such software can be configured in such a way that it can control traffic limits in: day, week, month and so on. Against this background, Microsoft began to introduce similar software in its operating systems of earlier editions and, as a result, among developers, something began to be obtained and with all this, it was not very bad. Several years passed and in the course of evolution, already familiar to many OS in the updated editions of software Windows 10, was able to get a qualitatively modified application responsible for controlling the area of Internet traffic in the system.
How to configure the control of Internet traffic in Windows 10?
Since you and I have an interest in setting up Internet traffic, you need to use the “Data Usage” section, which can be reached using the following path: using the search bar in the “Start” menu, write the search query “Data Usage Settings” → in search results, select the “Data usage parameters” result → in the new window, go down the “Network and Internet” menu → at the bottom of the menu, select “Data usage”.
Now, you need to select the network connection in the “Data usage” window, which will be configured and done as follows: click on “Traffic limit” → use the “Show settings for” item.
If everything is done correctly, then in a small window with a scant amount of settings, you can refer to one of three parameters:
- Monthly - you will definitely have to set the start date for calculating the Internet traffic waste, adjust the traffic limits and its volumes in specific values of the calculation.
- One-time - the number of days that this parameter will take effect - “package” is indicated.
- No restrictions - set the date, which allows you to count from it the amount of Internet traffic consumed.
In the situation of the code, you got into the above system settings and found that you have already set a “traffic limit”, you can adjust it “for yourself” and this is done using the “Change limit” button → perform a number of changes to the “package” for yourself → save all new settings.
Please note that at any time, you will be able to remove the traffic limits using the “Delete limit” button. This action is very simple and will require only a one-time confirmation from you in the “Delete traffic limit” → “Delete” window that appears.
Detailed Internet traffic control in Windows 10, which you could spend, can be performed using the indicators in the “Data usage” subsection. Here, there are informational graphics in the form of a pair of simplest scales, which show the consumed and remaining packet of Internet traffic.
In conclusion, I would like to point out one very important point ... No matter how well you perform the shutdown of the Windows 10 operating system updates, its components will most likely be updated anyway. In addition, you will constantly see while using the OS non-intrusive advertising from Microsoft and other small components that, gradually, will absorb your Internet traffic. Accordingly, when setting the "Traffic Limits", they will almost always be partially spent on "Background data transfer", but there is an opportunity to set restrictions even here, which are one of three options:
- “When there is no more than 10% of the limit” - at most suitable for those who have a large amount of limited Internet traffic, since the disconnection of advertising and downloading updates occurs when 90% of the traffic that has been expended is reached.
- “Always” - suitable for those who do not have limited Internet traffic, because with this option, the system will always download updates and show advertisements from Microsoft.
- “Never” - suitable for those who have specific restrictions on Internet traffic, since when selecting this option, downloading updates will never be performed, as well as advertising.
We hope that we were able to open your eyes to the fact that setting traffic limits in Windows 10 is a really useful opportunity to track Internet traffic spending for a specific period of time and due to this you will not be in situations where the whole “package” was spent: "It is not clear where it is not clear how?"
